Travel to Hawaii Dilema

Denise is stationed in Hawaii for the next three years and I really want to visit her while she is there. Plus I have been planning my dream Hawaiian vacation for years! The problem is … when do I go? We want to start trying for a second kid sometime this summer. So should I go before or after the second kid? The problem with going now (around May) is money. We just bought a house that needed some improvements and so money is tight. If I go now, I probably can’t have the dream vacation I planned; we would probably just stay with my sister, which would be ok, but then I may never get my dream. My dream vacation involves cruising to all the islands and staying in a nice resort. Also, my sister is a stay at home mom now and so can spend more time with us if we go now but will probably have a job by later this year. If I wait, it will be almost 2 years and then I will have to travel with 2 kids causing the trip to be more expensive and complicated. It would give me more time to save and plan for my dream vacation though. I don’t want to be pregnant when I am there because I had awful morning sickness with my first and I really want to scuba dive when I’m there, which I can’t do if I’m preggers. I could try and plan a trip during the second trimester, but it is hard to know how long it will take me to get pregnant. We didn’t go on a vacation at all last year and I would also really like to get away. It is possible for me to do my dream vacation this year but would involve putting a lot of it on credit cards or borrowing money.

Rolls all the Time

Now she rolls all the time! At first she could only roll to her right, but now she definitely rolls both ways. She gets her arm out and everything (most of the time). She can’t get back on her back though and gets fussy on her belly, so we end up having to roll her back on her back all the time. She also almost always spits up while on her belly and then rubbing her face in it.

Work Morning with Jemma

Ashley has the flu so Jemma had to stay home today instead of going to Beckys. My dad said he would watch her but didn’t seem to enthusiastic about it so I went into work a little late, leaving home around 10am. My mom got home from Neighbor Ride around 1pm, so my dad just had to watch her from 10-1. It was actually kind of nice to get some sleep since she has been sleeping so bad lately. I brought her into bed with me after mike left and we took a little snooze together. It was really nice.

Rolled for First Time!!

Jemma rolled for the first time. She did it at least twice, the first time no one saw though. She was fussy and dad (who was sleeping while mom washed the dishes) went over to check her and she was on her belly! Mom waited a while and she didn’t do it again. Then when she almost stopped watching her, she did it again! So it was definitely repeatable :)

First Night in Crib

Jemma slept in her crib for the first time last night!! :)

I tried to talk Mike into waiting one more day since she had a rough day yesterday with all her shots but he said no. She slept through the whole day yesterday. He tried to put her into the crib when she was still awake and let her fall asleep on her own. But after she was a little fussy for a few minutes, i went upstairs and grabbed her. Mike said he was going to wait 5 minutes, I didn't last that long. She wasn't crying, just wimpering, but I still got her.

I ended up putting her to sleep in my arms and laying her down in the crib. That was about 8pm. She slept straight until 5:45am when our alarm went off and we had to wake her up to get her to Beckys. I don't know if she slept that good because of the shots or she is going to go back to sleeping through the night.

She had been sleeping through the night until a little over a week ago when she started waking up. But hopefully she is getting back to a better sleep schedule!

On a side note ... we didn't double line her diaper last night before bed and she ended up peeing through the diaper onto the crib. Changing a crib sheet and crib mattress pad is much harder than the sheet on the co-sleeper ... :/

So the first night in the crib was a success!

Jemma 4 Month Update

So Jemma turned 4 months old on Saturday!! The same day as the Ravens big win!! :)

We had her 4 month appt this morning and she is doing great! She is growing perfectly along the growth curve. She is 13 lbs 8 oz now and 25 inches long. So she is over 2 feet tall! I don't remember the exact percentages but they were around 70-80% for height and weight and 45% for head.

She is hitting all the milestones of stuff she should be doing by now. She is smiling a lot, cooing all the time, and almost rolling over (if only that one elbow didnt keep getting in the way). She holds herself up really well when she is on her belly. The doctor commented again on how alert she is. She has gotten that comment from the doctors since the day she was born. She always has such wide eyes and loves looking at everything. She is so nosy! She like to be facing out and squirms around to see whats going on.

We took her hiking yesterday on the trail across from our house and she loved it! She giggled a lot and had a huge smile practically the whole time (until she fell asleep). The trail was really nice too! It was about a 10 minute hike and we got to schooley mill park which has a huge playground and a baseball diamond and bbq areas and pavilions. I think that hike just made me love our house even more! I hope Jemma will be able to go out and play since that is so close.

The doctor said that we do need to change our sleeping habits. Mike and I got a little bit of a hard time at the doctors office. She is no longer supposed to sleep in our room (co-sleeper is getting packed up tonight) and we aren't supposed to rock her to sleep every night. Also, if she wakes in the middle of the night, we shouldn't feed her. She needs to learn to fall asleep on her own and if she wakes up to fall back asleep on her own. So we will have to make some changes starting tonight. As Mike said, this is probably going to be harder on mommy than it is on Jemma :)

On a side note, she was a pee machine at the doctors office this morning. She peed twice with her diaper off and I only brought 2 cloth diapers with me that got peed on quickly and we ended up in 2 disposables by the end of the appt! It was crazy! She got it all over the paper and her outfit. It was a mess! But she seemed to enjoy it, she was smiling the whole time :)

She did get more vaccines today, one oral liquid and 2 shots. The liquid she sucked down super fast and seemed to want more! She first shot didnt seem to affect her but the second one clearly hurt, she screamed for a while and it was pretty rough. They seem to get worse the older she gets. She was happy and talking away by the time I left for work.
